THE HISTORY OF KUNAFA
Historians trace Kunafa back to 7th-century Damascus, where a royal baker created it for Muawiyah I, the first Umayyad Caliph. Prescribed by a royal doctor to sustain the Caliph during long Ramadan fasts, this original primitive version—shredded dough layered with fats and honey—was affectionately known for centuries as "Muawiyah’s Noodles."
